He was then commissioned to look after the large and valuable collection of an amateur player which allowed him to study the great makers\u2019 instruments closely. Much of his inspiration for his own work comes from that of the Cremonses makers Stradivari and Guarneri combined with the Neapolitan tradition of Nicolo Gagliano. This combination of knowledge and the establishment of his own workshop in Napoli in 1855 are what would lead Postiglione to become the founder of the modern trend of the Neapolitan school. His cellos, of which he made 115, are especially highly regarded and prized for their careful craftsmanship and highly refined sound.
