Dipper, Corrette model"},"content":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Maker:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Andrew Dipper is a skilled restorer, luthier, historian, and writer with a background in sculpture and Cremonese violinmaking. He has made replicas of historic bows for 35 years. Mr. Dipper\u2019s work is informed by dedicated scholarship, study of original bows and museum conservation.\u00a0 Examples of his restoration, conservation, and reproduction work can be found in many of the foremost public and private musical instrument collections, as well as in the hands of acclaimed players worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Model:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Michel Corrette (b. 1707, d.1795) was a French musician and author of many musical method books. Andrew Dipper\u2019s bows are of the type illustrated by Corrette in his violin tutor of 1782. This tutor depicts a bow with a \u201cpike head\u201d which allows for a hair ribbon barely wider than 7mm. This hair ribbon is also cambered by the shaping of the frog\u2019s hair channel, which gives the bow very different playing characteristics than the modern bow with its flat hair ribbon. The stick of the bow is regulated in diameter to enhance poetical expression within the music.
