Louis “Willy” Dölling (b.1897,d.1970) was the son and student of George Louis Dölling Jr. Willy, as he preferred to be called, took over his fathers shop in 1919, and passed his final Master violinmaking test in 1920 in Markneukirchen. All of his violins are branded on the inside Louis Dölling Jr. Markneukirchen. This violin is a fine example of his masterful work. It’s varnish is a beautiful deep red, with intense flaming across a one-piece back. It produces a sweet dark tone without losing clarity on the low end. It is comfortable to hold and has a quick response which makes it very easy and gratifying to play. This instrument would be perfect for the serous violinist.
