Janos Bodor, Jr. is a Hungarian-American luthier who emigrated to the United States with his family in 1956.  Luthier Janos Sr., employed in Philadelphia by Moennig & Sons, trained his gifted son to make instruments and in 1965, Janos Jr. joined his father at Moennigs.  Cellos made by Janos Jr. were highly prized by East coast symphony musicians, however, his cello production was discontinued in 1990.  An unfortunate loss for cellists, however, this became a wonderful circumstance for the violists!

For this contemporary 2022 viola, Bodor employed his own model featuring broad lower bouts for more vibrating airspace while the upper bouts are shaped for optimal left- hand facilitation.  The viola has a very warm tone with a hint of brightness to project the sound with depth, color, and ring.
