This bass viol is a copy of the Matthias and Augustinus Kaiser Bass Viol, a viola da gamba made by two luthiers in Düsseldorf c.1700. In the early 1980s, Andrew Dipper restored the original viol, which he said had the most beautiful voice. It resides in Edinburgh at St. Cecilia’s Hall. Andrew drafted drawings of this historical instrument to recreate this gorgeous Bass Viola da Gamba. The back is made of Italian Cyprus wood. Two years in the making, the copy is now on the market.
