On October 9, 2010, the Iowa String Teachers Association held its second bi-annual statewide Solo Competition at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. Eight students participated in the competition, which was hosted and organized by solo competition chair Julia Bullard, past-president of ISTA. The Givens Violins award winners are Hannah Howland of Cedar Falls, IA and Alan Y. Zhou of Ankeny, IA. Hannah Howland is a violin student of Frederick Halgedahl, and will be forwarded to the ASTA Solo Competition semifinal round. Alan Zhou is a violin student of Mahlon Darlington, and will be forwarded to the ASTA Solo Competition semifinal round.
