Jules Fetique (b. 1875, d. 1951) developed his bow making artistry while apprenticing with the C. N. Bazin workshop in Mirecourt until 1902. That same year, he went to work for Eugene Sartory. Hence, Fetique’s bow making style closely resembled that of Sartory. In 1917, Fetique joined Caressa & Francais which is when he made this bow. In later years, Fetique’s style became more inspired by the Peccatte school yielding stronger and more powerful bows.
A copy of the certificate issued by William Salchow dated April 14, 1989 accompanies this bow and states the bow to be the work of Jules Fetique, Paris c. 1920. The bow is stamped “Caressa & Francais Paris 1920.” The stunning octagonal and medium brown Pernambuco stick has an unoriginal ebony frog and button. With the price adjustment for this frog, it becomes a much more affordable bow.
The bow pulls a prodigious, dynamic, and elegant sound from the cello with remarkable ease. The professional or zealous cellist will value the fantastic balance and control of the bow from frog to tip. If you desire a bow that can catapult your music making beyond your wildest dreams, come play the Fetique!
