The London-based firm W.E. Hill & Sons was founded in 1880 by William Ebsworth Hill, who established its world -renowned reputation for pioneering new techniques in instrument and bow making as well outstanding restoration work.  His four sons were trained by him and continued the legacy of Hill excellence and unrivaled expertise. W.E. Hill & Sons is masterful in making instruments and bows as well as publishing groundbreaking treatises on the Stradivari and Guarneri families.

The Hill workshop employed many fine luthiers, however, their specialty was bows.  Givens Violins is thrilled to offer this wonderful violin bow attributed to Malcolm Maurice Taylor who worked at Hills from 1949 to 1973.  In addition to bow making skills, Taylor trained the likes of John Clutterbuck and other notables.  The bow was made in 1958 and bears Taylor’s maker number “8” stamped on the tip plate.
