Dealers, Makers & Restorers of Fine Violins, Violas, Cellos & Bows
the fine art of restoring, conserving, and building historic musical instruments
Highly regarded as a maker (and player) of violins, violas, cellos, and basses, Guy Cole’s well-grounded string instrument making pedigree was cultivated studying repair with Rene Morel at the Manhattan School of Music (1980) and was further fueled by his interest in the construction and restoration of stringed instruments. In 1982, Cole began his formal studies at the Violin Making School of America and completed this demanding program in 1985. After graduation, he immersed himself at the New York shop of William L. Monical, the bowed stringed instrument consultant at the Smithsonian Institute. Both players and luthiers recognize Guy’s excellent work as he has been awarded Gold Medals for tone and workmanship. Notably, his basses are played by great orchestral musicians. Now you will have the opportunity to audition the Giulia model violin and continue the legacy! Guy and his wife, Julia established the Avalon Studio workshop in 1995 employing personally trained staff and using superior tonewood to craft a violin to fulfill your music-making wishes. The Giulia model violin, at Givens Violins, is lovely with a medium brown varnish and descending flames adorning the one piece back. Guy named the violin “Giulia” which is Italian for his wife’s name, Julia. So charming! You will be charmed and pleased by the responsive, sweet, and uncompromised clarity of sound and texture. This violin will project across your favorite concert hall with ease while remaining quiet under the ear. Giulia is phenomenal value for any violinist
