This beautiful viola by Wisconsin based luthier Linda Tollefson is a splendid example of a viola that meets the needs of the modern violist. Finding that right balance of ease of playability and a rich, beautiful tone is always a tough mark to strike, and this viola finds the “sweet spot.” At 15 ½” with a short string length, it is tremendously easy to execute the most difficult of passages yet never sacrifices in tone. There is a rich, firm and clear focus in the lower register that transitions evenly to a sweet upper end that blossoms, rather than collapses, when pushed for projection. This viola would be excellent for the advancing student look for that balance of playability and a rich viola tone.
