Thomas Crompton, Indianapolis 2025, Plowden model
Thomas Crompton is a person you would want as a neighbor. When he is not making amazing violins, he will be out and about finding beauty in the forest and fields. He is passionate about playing the violin, cooking, the fine arts, and meticulously exploring the methods of the old master violin makers. Thomas graduated from the Violin Making School of America studying under Charles Woolf, Sanghoon Lee, and Alex Wilson. While schooling, his violin making was further inspired by his tenure at Peter Prier & Sons Violins. A current resident of Indianapolis, Thomas divides his time making his own violins and working for the remarkable violin maker Sofia Vettori. Be the first violinist to play the latest violin from this up- and -coming maker: a reproduction of the “Plowden” G. Guarneri del Gesu 1735 model. The 1735 Plowden Guarneri was named after the amateur London violinist, C.H. Chichele Plowden who was the first owner of the original. The violin has a enchanting and lingering resonance you will notice as the strings instantly respond to the bow. The tone is like richly colored velvet (you choose the color!) and alluring across the strings. And like the original Guarneri, Crompton’s violin has refined, crystalline power for expressive or firecracker technical playing. Be the first!
