Dealers, Makers & Restorers of Fine Violins, Violas, Cellos & Bows
the fine art of restoring, conserving, and building historic musical instruments
We string players are eternally grateful to Claude Thomassin (b. 1865, d.1942) along with his father, Louis, broke with the family’s saddle making tradition to become masters of archetier. Claude chose wisely by apprenticing with C.N. Bazin and in due course went to Paris to work for Gand & Bernardel. Claude ascribed to the Paris bowmaking style of Voirin and then established his own shop in 1901. An interesting fellow, he perished on a fishing expedition after a wildly prolific production of fine bows. This remarkable bow available to you has a Pierre Guillaume certification. Imagine a box containing dozens of vividly colored pencils and you can hear these colors with this bow drawn across the strings. The bow gives your playing a strong and noble quality while you revel in the precise articulation. Happy playing!
