Dealers, Makers & Restorers of Fine Violins, Violas, Cellos & Bows
the fine art of restoring, conserving, and building historic musical instruments
To impart knowledge, skills, and insight to another person is a process defined by quality interpersonal relationships and trust. Jean-Claude Ouchard (b. 1935), the second son of Emile August Ouchard, is a beneficiary of the great Ouchard family dynasty of bow makers. Jean-Claude began his bow making training in 1949 with Louis Bazin and then refined his skills at the Lotte workshop. Later, in 1954, he rejoined his father in the Francais workshop; in 1958 collaborated with LaPierre in Mirecourt; and spent time in a plethora of esteemed workshops until opening his own Mirecourt workshop from 1978 to 1988. Givens Violins is offering a bow made c. 1980 with accompanying certificate. Many of Jean-Claude’s bows followed a model inspired by the Ouchard family style. Prepare yourself to be captivated by this marvelous viola bow. The bow will bring out the best and hidden qualities of your viola and elevate your viola’s capabilities to the moon and back. Revel in feeling your viola evolve! Play to your heart’s desire—elegant, golden, powerful, raucous, sassy, or tender all with a vibrant, colorful timbre. Those pesky Sevcik School of Bowing Studies will rapidly be tamed and become your new best friend!
