Quebec, Canada native, Andre Lavoye had developed an early curiosity in science and aeronautics before entering into  lutherie. Fortunately, Andre’s formidable talents were recognized by the Canada Council for the Arts. This Council bestowed a grant to Andre to pursue lutherie training in Paris. During his six years in Paris, Andre apprenticed at multiple shops learning bow making and instrument restoration. After stints in Brussels and Hong Kong, Andre returned to Canada in 1994 subsequently working and settling in Montreal, teaching, and setting up his own shop in 1999. His work is inspired by French and English bow making traditions and his personal philosophy of providing superior performance and comfort for the string player.
Lavoye’s bow in hand is akin to snuggling into your favorite easy chair. From there, you can “binge play” any viola repertoire your heart yearns for.
