Seattle-based makers, Sarah and Alan Balmforth have been makers and repairers of violin family instruments for forty years. They are famous for their cut outs on the upper bouts of viola. These make it perfect for the smaller violist looking for comfort, responsiveness, and a big deep viola tone.

Appearance:

It has a warm red-brown varnish with a beautiful one-piece back, and its signature cut outs shape on the upper bouts.

Sound & Feel:

It has a clear and deep lower end that transitions well to its singing upper end with a focused core tone throughout all four strings.
