Juan Carlos Prado Castro began his training in violin making at the Lutherie Workshop of Old Havana through the Luthiers Sans Frontières project. Since then, he has dedicated his career to the making, restoration, and preservation of bowed string instruments. In 2016, he became Head and Master of the Lutherie Workshop of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, where he led restoration projects and trained young luthiers from different regions of Cuba. His work as a maker includes several violins, violas, and cellos, including the first cello built in Cuba. His work was featured in the article “Classical Routes: Postcard from Havana,” published in the 130th Anniversary issue of The Strad.
