The Makers:
The Mathias Thoma cello was made just this year in Bubenreuth, Germany. The freshness of the cello gives it a peppy, even boisterous temperament.
Appearance:
It has a deep reddish-brown varnish with beautiful two-piece maple back.
Sound & Feel:
The feistiness in the sound brings with it an agile execution that one would expect of a new instrument. Despite its age the Thoma cello is well-balanced and has a warm-textured lower end that gives rise to a brighter soloistic top. Amazingly, the Thoma cello offers tremendous breadth of sound and can generate more and more volume with each passing bow stroke. There is seemingly an unlimited range of color and resonance in the instrument, allowing the player to dig in and achieve a weighty sound on the lower strings while making the A and D strings soar, this cello would be well-suited for the advanced player.

Belly: Spruce, Two-Piece
Back: Maple, Two-Piece
