Cello: Lillo Salerno workshop, Germany 2025 w/cert
The Makers:
Italian violin maker Lillo Salerno was born in Sicily, Italy. A formative moment in his early life came when he watched a documentary on Stradivari, which sparked a lasting interest in violin making and restoration.
In 1998, he enrolled at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona, where he studied until 2002. During this period, he developed a strong foundation in the traditional Cremonese school, producing instruments that reflect its classical principles. He later continued his training at the Violin Making School of Mittenwald, completing his studies in 2005.
Through this combined education in both the Italian and German traditions of violin making, Salerno developed a broad and refined approach to craftsmanship. He currently operates his workshop in Pforzheim, Germany, where he continues to build fine string instruments.
Appearance:
It carries a warm orange-brown varnish over golden ground that enhances the reflection of the woods. The top is of medium grained spruce, and the scroll, ribs, and back are made of finely figured maple.
Sound & Feel:
This cello has a rich, resonant sound, especially in the lower strings. It is easy to play and produces a brilliant, projecting sound. This instrument would be great for an advanced player or someone who wants to grow as their instrument does as well.
