The Makers:
Daniel Arlig studied double bass performance at the New England Conservatory of Music before pursuing formal training in string instrument repair and violin making. In 2000, he graduated with honors in String Instrument Repair from Minnesota State College Southeast under the direction of Lisbeth Nelson-Butler. He later earned a degree in Violin Making and Restoration from the North Bennet Street School, completing the three-year program in two years while studying with Kevin Kelly, David Polstein, and Thomas Hummel. Daniel received an Honorable Mention in the 2012 Art of Sound Violin Making Competition.
Appearance:
This Guadagnini inspired model has beautiful, rich reddish-brown varnish over the golden ground with handsome flamed maple back.
Sound & Feel:
This cello offers a beautifully balanced tone across its entire range. Both the upper and lower registers produce a full, rich, and even sound, with excellent clarity and warmth. Exceptionally responsive to the player’s touch, it speaks effortlessly and allows for a wide range of tonal colors and expressive phrasing. Its combination of balance, projection, and playability makes it equally well suited for solo performance, chamber music, and orchestral playing.

Daniel Arlig is a true master luthier. Arlig received his training from the highly regarded North Bennet Street School. His accomplishments include membership in the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers and a 2012 Honorable Mention in the Art of Sound violin making competition. Moreover, Arlig is an accomplished performing musician beginning as a young violist and later earning a degree in double bass performance from the New England Conservatory.
