Georges Cone, Lyon, 1937 #124
Georges Cone (b. 1877 Mirecourt, d. after 1950 Lyons, France) moved to Lyons in 1896 to study violin making with Paul Blanchard. The Blanchard workshop made violins admired for their bold and unabashed sound. Cone left the workshop to explore violin making in various workshops outside of France and found his way back to Lyon in 1928 to take over the workshop of Emile Boulangeot. Notably, Cone was appointed the official luthier for the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lyon and the Lyon Conservatory. He was a prolific maker and medal winner credited with 200 violins and 25 cellos. Cone made instruments using a personal model based on Stradivari. Claire Givens Violins is over the moon about being able to offer a Cone violin made in 1937. The Cone violin is bodacious and fearless! You will be captivated by the big, warm fruity sound across the strings with a bonus high register sizzle. Be engulfed by the supple response! It is possible just looking at the violin will bewitch you—-dark red brown over gold varnish in superb condition. Oh my! This is a violin you MUST to come in and play! Seize the day—and a lifetime of pleasure playing the Cone.
