The Maker:
Born in 1960, German bow maker Josef Peter Gabriel trained under Alfons Riedel in Bubenreuth, completing his apprenticeship before remaining in Riedel’s workshop for an additional five years. In 1987, he completed his master’s examination under HWK Nuremberg, and established his own workshop in Erlangen.
Gabriel’s work has earned international recognition, receiving the Gold Medal for cello bow at the 1996 Violin Society of America Competition and the Gold Medal for viola bow at the 1993 Mittenwald Competition. He has also been honored with numerous additional awards and certificates for his craftsmanship.
