The Maker:
Karoly de Ferenczy (b.1863, Budpest; d.1902, New York) apprenticed with Thomas Zach in Vienna and then worked for Schunde where Ferenczy made number of instruments for his employers’ label. He moved to Berlin in 1888 and then Ferenczy moved to Rotterdam to work. He emigated to New York in 1902 and unfortunately died that year. He was known for his refined and authentic work using the Stadivari model.
Appearance:
This violin has a light orange varnish above a yellow ground, with spectacular flamed two-piece back.
Sound & Feel:
The violin plays with a pure bell-like resonance and has a confident response under the bow. It speaks with clarity and brilliance in all the registers to bring new life to every note played on it.
