Nicola Lazzari, Cremona 2001
“This is our philosophy: We shape wood to give life and soul to the instrument.” —Nicloa Lazzari
The Lazzari cello waiting for you at Claire Givens Violins was made with the passion and extraordinary craftsmanship embodied by the words and hands of Nicola Lazzari. Maestro Lazzari realized he had a brilliant aptitude for music and woodworking. With these skills, Lazzari spent a 10-year apprenticeship with Gio Batta Morassi’s workshop and also graduated from the International School of Violin Making in Cremona in 1979. Seeking his own pathway for violin making, Lazzari founded his shop in Casalbuttano ed Uniti, a provincial Italian village. Along side his wife, violin maker Migiwa Ito Larrazi, his remarkable work continues in the village and reaches musicians across the globe. Lazzari’s work has been celebrated with numerous prestigious awards from 1978 to 2015. Lazzari’s violins, violas, and cellos are influenced by the models of the modern Italian school, such as Garimberti and Ornati, and by classical models such as Amati, Guarneri, Bergonzi, and Stradivari—all with precise attention to aesthetic and acoustic details.
The Lazzari, visually stunning with an orange brown over gold varnish and narrow flames descending from the center seam, is a cellist’s dream. With a potent and desirable C string and soaring A string embracing the G and D strings, the Lazzari possesses a balanced projection for seamless and singing sound. Revel in the impeccable clarity and richness of this cello waiting for you!
