Pierre Simon (b. 1808, d. 1881) began his auspicious career as a bow making apprentice (age 12!) in Mirecourt. Aged 30 and mastering his trade, he arrived in Paris and worked for Peccatte, Vuillaume, and Gand Freres. Of note, Peccatte was very probably a childhood friend of Simon. Further, Simon’s bow making was strongly influenced by Peccatte’s style although Simon did differ slightly from Peccatte. In 1840, Simon joined the Vuillaume workshop staying until 1844. Simon then purchased Peccatte’s business in 1847 and partnered with Joseph Henry until 1851. From 1850 to 1875, Simon made bows under his own name but also supplied Vuillaume. This grand and lofty bow has certificates from Kenneth Warren & Son and Paul Childs. We have only found record of 5 bows of this caliber by Pierre Simon. It is in excellent condition. It also has a silver and ebony frog made for it as an opton for day-to-day use.
Take the bow in your hand and be exhilarated by the sublime playing experience! The bow is strong, lithe, projects effortlessly, and is exquisitely balanced. The bow will organically bond with the violin strings yielding a velvet, infinite, and confident sound. Simon’s bow is totally accomplished and very comfortable with any bowing technique you desire. Everything you play will sound better, be more intended, and simply, be magical. We look forward to hearing and seeing your delight of playing the bow!
