Stefano Scarampella (1843-1925), trained as a master luthier by his much older brother Giuseppe, was an Italian violin and cello maker noted for his elegant craftsmanship and colorful tonal palette. He is considered one of the best 20th century violin makers with a tonal quality regarded as comparable to that of his predecessor Giovanni Battista Guadagnini. The exquisitely narrow flame of the horizontally matched two-piece back shimmers delicately through a burnished gold brown varnish. The rosewood fittings complement the warm coloring and rich tone of this beautiful violin. It has a lively and immediate response with a clear, nuanced, powerful, and deep mellow voice and would be suitable for the professional player and concert soloist.
