The Maker:
Rudolf Neudörfer is a renowned Czech-born bow maker. He learned the craft of violin making from Bohumil Pechar and Hans Schmirler at the Violin Making School in Luby. He then worked at the Cremona cooperation for string instruments in town until he escaped socialist Czechia by posing as a ski coach at the Olympic Games in Innsbruck 1964. After an apprenticeship in bow making in Bubenreuth, his path led to Switzerland where he worked at the Finkel workshop for six years before opening his own workshop in Bubenruth in 1973. He frequently visited both the Weisshar workshop in Los Angeles and travelled to Japan for collaborations. His works are highly praised for their exceptional craftsmanship and have won him multiple prizes at the Violin Society of America (VSA) competitions and a prestigious gold medal at the National Bow Making Competition in Wiesbaden, Germany.
