Dealers, Makers & Restorers of Fine Violins, Violas, Cellos & Bows
The Maker:
Lee Guthrie has been crafting fine violin bows since 1990, bringing together a lifelong love of music, woodworking, and precision craftsmanship. A former land surveyor and civil engineering technician, he discovered bow making through his passion for old-time fiddle music and pursued formal training in both instrument repair and bow making. Guthrie attended the string instrument repair course in Red Wing, MN in 1978-79 and did periodic repair work on violins and bows while keeping active in surveying, and later studied with renowned master bow maker William Salchow in 1990. His bows are now played by musicians around the world and are valued for their balance, responsiveness, and rich tonal qualities. Dedicated to understanding each musician’s individual needs, Guthrie strives to create bows that inspire confidence, comfort, and beautiful sound.
