Dealers, Makers & Restorers of Fine Violins, Violas, Cellos & Bows
the fine art of restoring, conserving, and building historic musical instruments
Charles Bailly (b. 1879, d. 1957) could well be described as the embodiment of an artisan and innovator. He was trained and mentored by his father, Joseph Bailly, in violin making at his Mirecourt birthplace and early home. Charles was ultimately employed by the Mougenot workshop and subsequently by the Laberte-Humbert atelier. In 1909, Bailly founded his own workshop in Rue-General Mangin. Bailly was considered to be a productive and reliable maker and noted for developing an original violin model with consistent outstanding tone and quality. If you are seeking a violin with elegant thunderous tone, luminous clarity, and dazzling upper register sound for those solo, chamber music, and orchestral leadership opportunities, the Bailly is waiting for you. Oh yes, the violin is visually gorgeous.
