The Maker:
Born in 1938, Herbert Wanka is a distinguished German bow maker. His career in bow making began around 1952, when he trained under the respected master Emanuel Schuster in Bubenreuth, and later apprenticed under another renowned maker Gotthard Schuster. After earning his master’s qualification in 1968, Wanka established an independent workshop in Bubenreuth before relocating his business to Baiersdorf in 1977.
Through decades of dedicated craftsmanship, Wanka has earned an international reputation for the exceptional quality of his bows. In addition to his own work, he has played an important role in passing on the traditions of fine bow making by mentoring numerous apprentices and young craftsmen throughout his career.
