Violin Bow: Unstamped, J.C. Suess w/unoriginal frog
Johann Christian Süss (Suess) (b. 1829, d. 1900, Muhlhausen) learned bow making under the tutelage of Chr. Friedrich Knopf (of the celebrated Knopf bow making dynasty). In 1852, Süss became a citizen of Markneukirchen, the German center of string instrument making superiority to continue his work and study. Of interest, Süss stamped his 1870 bows with TOURTE reflecting the model his used for his bow making. Bows made during the latter years of his career were stamped SUESS, W.H. HAMMIG, or unstamped. Scholarly resources indicate Süss was connected with the Weichold workshop. His bows exhibit well balanced work on the stick and were made from first class materials. The result: bows with dependable and superior playing qualities. This bow offered by Claire Givens Violins is unstamped and with an unoriginal frog. The Suss bow is lithe like a noble leopard prowling across the violin strings! The bow is made for power, speed, and cat-like balance. The flexible yet confident stick will have you dancing across the strings and then settle into flowing lyricism. Of course, the clarity in all dynamics will give your violin a new, exciting voice!
