Klaus L. Clement was born in 1956 in Weissenburg, Bavaria. After delving into several fascinating career paths, Klaus discovered his life purpose and love— while making violins under the tutelage of Karl Hoefner. There, under the watchful and caring eye of the Shop Meister, Klaus eagerly pursued the acquisition of knowledge for making violins from the fundamentals on up, starting with a billet of maple and spruce and working his way all through the build process through varnishing, set-up, and sound adjustment. Hungering for more, Klaus became a certified master violin maker in 1987 (Nuremburg), founded the workshop of Clement & Weise (2000), and ultimately established his own workshop in the renowned music city of Leipzig. Currently, Klaus operates the workshop, Klaus Ludwig Clement Meister with his wife, Stefanie Eva Clement. Klaus is driven to provide violinists with superior instruments of desirable tonal quality and beauty. Moreover, Klaus is internationally recognized for his numerous lectures about violin making and his immense interest and knowledge of historical violin varnish recipes.
