Violin: C. Pirot, Paris 1830 w/ Moennig cert
Claude Pirot, Paris 1830 w/Moennig cert
The Maker:
Crafted by Claude Pirot (1795-1835), one of the distinguished makers based in Paris during the Golden Age of the Parisian School in French violin making history. Working during the era of Nicolas Lupot, François Louis Pique, and Jean-François Aldric, Pirot produced instruments that are often regarded among the finest examples of the French traditions, with his best works frequently compare to those of Nicolas Lupot.
While deeply inspired by the Stradivari model favored by other colleagues of that period, Pirot developed a personal style in his details, such as slightly fuller arching, deeply sculpted fluting, and his signature elongated pegbox.
His wood selection was consistently great and he tended to apply thick, rich varnish that ranges from luminous yellow to deep red-brown.
Appearance:
This violin was built on the Stradivari-inspired long pattern model, showing Pirot’s signature elongated pegbox, and covered with the deep red-brown varnish laid over a beautiful two-piece back with attractive figure.
Sound & Feel:
It offers a clear, focused voice with warmth and depth beneath the surface. The tone combines elegance and refinement with great projection evenly across all strings.
