Violin: Charles Brugere, Paris 1905
Charles Georges Brugere was an exceptional maker and displayed one of the most unique styles of his time. Brugere apprenticed with Etienne Drouin in 1878 (Mirecourt). After which he worked for Blanchard at Lyons in 1881, then worked for Gand and Bernardel from 1885-1892. He managed Eugene Henry’s business for 3 years to then move on to opening his own shop in 1895. Brugere won a silver medal in 1900 at the Paris Universal exhibition and a gold medal in 1905 at the Liege Universal Exhibition. Modeling his instruments after Amati and Stradavari’s dimensions. Brugere was known for his exceptionally neat and precise work. This instrument is one of the finest examples of his meticulousness. Modeled after a violin from Stradivari’s golden period. Antiqued naturally over time this violin has developed a lot of character and a gorgeous petina. It has a handwritten signature next to the label. The violin is also branded on the inside “Brugere” and over the end button “Brugere A Paris.” The sound it produces is powerful. This instrument can easily fill performance hall with its rich lower register and soaring upper range. This instrument is also exceptionally easy to play. Both in comfortability and ease of response. This instrument would be perfect for the professional looking for an instrument to distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack.
