Dealers, Makers & Restorers of Fine Violins, Violas, Cellos & Bows
The Makers:
Daniel Arlig studied double bass performance at the New England Conservatory of Music before pursuing formal training in string instrument repair and violin making. In 2000, he graduated with honors in String Instrument Repair from Minnesota State College Southeast under the direction of Lisbeth Nelson-Butler. He later earned a degree in Violin Making and Restoration from the North Bennet Street School, completing the three-year program in two years while studying with Kevin Kelly, David Polstein, and Thomas Hummel. Daniel received an Honorable Mention in the 2012 Art of Sound Violin Making Competition.
Appearance:
The viola is inspired by the models of Amati and the great Brescian masters, da Salo and Maggini. The eye will be drawn to the double purfling, the rich medium orange brown varnish, and a one-piece back with a smattering of bird’s eyes and intriguing flaming.
Sound & Feel:
This viola is commanding in sound, colored with a warm chocolate timbre, and clarity in all dynamics.
