Alfred Leicht (b. 1901, d. 1981) began his apprenticeship with his bowmaker father, Max Leicht and Hermann Beck in Hohendorf. During his journeyman years (1922-1930), Alfred worked with violin maker Emil Stark, Max Schaffner, and independently. Most of his output during these years was delivered unstamped to workshops and violin shops in Nurnberger and Berlin. Leicht completed his master’s examination in bowmaking in 1931. Subsequently, he moved to Berlin and worked with Max Mockel (1932-34) and developed a theoretical knowledge of violin making. Ultimately , Leicht had master level study, credentials, and passion for both bow making and violin making. He continued working until his death in 1981. Leicht’s bows were made from a personal model based on his extensive experience in Nurnberger and Berlin. Get ready! Leicht’s bow draws a brilliant sound exploding with resonance from the violin.
