The Maker:

Carl Suss (1860-1898) was the son of Johnn Christian Suss who was one of the greatest early German bow makers, having learned his craft from Christian Friedrich Knopf.  Carl Suss learned from his father from 1875-1880.  He immigrated to Uruguay in 1880.  He worked independently in Montevideo and also imported German bows.  This bow is an exceptional example of the work of a late 19th century German bow maker.
