Dealers, Makers & Restorers of Fine Violins, Violas, Cellos & Bows
The Maker:
Charles Bailly (b. 1879, d. 1957) could well be described as the embodiment of an artisan and innovator. He was trained and mentored by his father, Joseph Bailly, in violin making at his Mirecourt birthplace and early home. Charles was ultimately employed by the Mougenot workshop and subsequently by the Laberte-Humbert atelier. In 1909, Bailly founded his own workshop in Rue-General Mangin. Bailly was considered to be a productive and reliable maker and noted for developing an original violin model with consistent outstanding tone and quality.
Appearance:
This violin features a bright, lustrous red-orange varnish, with the chamfer delicately outlined in black, and the back showcases a gorgeous one-piece maple with beautifully defined flame.
Sound & Feel:
The sound profile matches its vibrant appearance: brilliant, clear, and exceptionally bright. Its tonal clarity ensures that every note speaks with precision.
