The Maker:
Ernst Heinrich Roth was born in Markneukirchen in 1877. He learned the art of violin-making from his father, Gustav Robert Roth, and studied under several violin-makers throughout Europe to perfect his craft. He became head of the Roth family firm in the early 20th century, producing violins of remarkable quality, and went on to become a widely-acclaimed maker whose work from the 1920s in particular is still sought after today.
Appearance:
Roth often made exceptional reproductions of famous Cremonese violins by Stradivari, Guarneri, and Amati. He chose the wood very carefully to ensure the best tone production. This violin has a medium brown orange varnish and a magnificent two-piece back with descending flames.
Sound & Feel:
The Roth violin has a engaging powerful sound projection. It is responsive, has a balanced timbre over the four strings, and welcomes the opportunity to show off a soloists’ technical facility. Quite simply, the violin is a joy to play for an advancing violinist aiming for a professional career or a passionate chamber music enthusiast.
