Dealers, Makers & Restorers of Fine Violins, Violas, Cellos & Bows
$11,000.00
The Makers:
This is an interesting and charming violin of unknown maker. Based on several construction details, it is our opinion that the instrument was made in Germany around 1808 and retains its classical setup.
The violin features a shellac-based varnish, while the choice of tonewoods is consistent with those commonly found in German of the period. The square saddle is another characteristic detail frequently seen on German instruments from the early 19th century.
Appearance:
The violin has a fine-grain spruce top and delicate flamed two-piece maple with the scroll and head match, with warm, reddish-brown varnish.
Sound & Feel:
The violin is resonant, rich and responsive with colors and nuances.
Materials:
Belly: Spruce, Two-Piece
Back: Maple, Two-Piece
Specs:
Back length: 35.6 cm
String length: 32.5 cm
