The Makers:
This is an interesting and charming violin made in Germany c.1808. It is a rarity in that it retains its original Classical setup.
The violin features a shellac-based varnish, while the choice of tone wood is consistent with those commonly found in Germany in this period. The square saddle is another characteristic which is frequently seen on German instruments from the early 19th century.
Appearance:
The violin has a fine-grained spruce top and delicate flamed two-piece maple back with the scroll and head matching. The varnish is a warm, reddish-brown color.
Sound & Feel:
The violin is resonant, rich and responsive with ample color and available nuance.
