Violin: Sebastian Vuillaume, Paris 1868 w/ Moennig cert
The Maker:
Sebastian Vuillaume (1835–1875), son of Claude-François Vuillaume V, nephew of the renowned Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, and son-in-law of the celebrated bow maker Dominique Peccatte. Sebastian inherited a remarkable artistic lineage; one that shaped the history of French violin making.
Having received his training from his father before working as an assistant in the workshop of J. B. Vuillaume, Sebastian developed a profound understanding of the classical Cremonese tradition, he later established his own atelier in Paris around 1867, producing not only instruments but bows as well.
His talent was recognized at the prestigious Paris Expositions, where he was awarded a Bronze Medal in 1867 and a Silver Medal in 1868.
Appearance:
Made in 1868, this exceptional instrument is modeled after the celebrated 1716 “Messiah” Stradivari, one of the most admired violins in existence.
The violin is adorned with orange-brown varnish laid over a golden ground, with the gorgeous one-piece back.
The Moennig certificate states “This is an exceptional specimen by this Master and it is in a perfect state of preservation.”
Sound & Feel:
The instrument possesses a voice of remarkable tonal colors, depth, and balance. Clear and focused at its core, the tone projects effortlessly while retaining warmth and refinement across all registers.
