The Maker:

Brouillier & Lotte was a short-lived French bow-making workshop based in Mirecourt, France, founded by Eugène (Victor) Brouillier (b. 1887, d. 1951) and François Lotte (b. 1889, d. 1970). The partnership existed briefly from 1925 to 1926, during which they produced bows in the celebrated Bazin style. During this period, the workshop employed the renowned bow maker Marcel Charles Lapierre (b. 1907, d. 1979), who joined after completing his apprenticeship at Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (JTL).

Francois Lotte was the son of violinmaker Georges Lotte, who worked for J.B. Vuillaume and then for Derazey. Francois chose archetier and was believed to have served his apprenticeship with Bazin (as he was found on the Bazin shop list of workers until 1921). After becoming a prisoner of war in WWI and his release, he married into the Ouchard family. Regardless, Lotte started working for the Cuniot-Hury firm in 1922 until 1925. After the partnership with Eugène (Victor) Brouillier ended in short, Lotte later established his own shop in 1926. In 1936, he hired several assistants including his son Roger Francois. Lotte retired from bowmaking in 1960. His work is synonymous with elegant craftsmanship and a commitment to reliability and quality.

Eugène (Victor) Brouillier was the son of bow maker Eugène Brouillier. He began his training in the workshop of Cuniot-Hury before joining Laberte in 1911. When Louis Bazin succeeded his father’s workshop, Brouillier continued his career there as one of Bazin’s craftsmen. Following World War I, he worked for Paul Bailly and later formed a short-lived partnership with François Lotte during 1925–1926 under the name “Brouillier & Lotte.” Around 1931, Brouillier returned to work for Laberte for a period, although he spent much of his later career working independently. His bows are appreciated for their fine craftsmanship and playability.

This bow delivers a warm, vibrant tone with remarkable ease. Its excellent balance, quick response, and dependable stability provide a comfortable playing experience for demanding musicians.
