Dealers, Makers & Restorers of Fine Violins, Violas, Cellos & Bows
The Makers:
Leopold Widhalm (b. 1722 d. 1776) was one of the most important 18th century German instrument makers. He studied under Sebastien Schelle and took over this workshop after Schelle’s death. Widhalm’s workshop grew into the largest and most successful violin shop in Nuremberg. His work shows the influence of Jacob Stainer.
Appearance:
The varnish is a deep red that has aged nicely and gives the cello a distinguished look. This instrument has been completely restored by the Dipper workshop and is appropriate for the professional or serious baroque player.
Sound & Feel:
This cello has a gorgeous, warm tone with a brilliant response.

Belly: Spruce, Two-Piece
Back: Maple, Two-Piece

We were pleased that Rebecca Humphrey played our Leopold Widhalm cello when she was at Givens Violins recently.
