The Maker:
Steven Reiley (b. 1949) is an American bow maker who began crafting bows in 1972 while pursuing a master’s degree in double bass at the University of Michigan. During his studies, he worked in the shop of Mark Schwartz before co-founding the Guarneri House violin shop in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with Phillip Greenberg. Although an accomplished bassist, Reiley devoted his career to bow making, drawing inspiration from the classic models of Tourte, Peccatte, Tubbs, and Dodd. His craftsmanship was recognized with a Certificate for Bow Making at the 1982 Violin Society of America Competition.
Sound & Feel:
This bow offers a rich, expressive palette, capable of elegant, bold, lively, and delicate voicings. It draws out the full range of the violin’s tonal spectrum with clarity and depth. Easy to play, well balanced, and highly responsive, it provides a reliable and comfortable playing experience.
