The Maker:
Hartmut Knoll (b. 1937) is a German bow maker and the second-generation master of the Knoll family workshop, founded by his father, Alfred Knoll, in 1932. After completing his apprenticeship under his father, he earned his Master Craftsman qualification in 1965 and assumed leadership of the workshop in 1977. Knoll is known for producing finely crafted bows that combine traditional German craftsmanship with excellent balance, responsiveness, and tonal qualities. His work has received international recognition, including a Gold Medal at the 1983 Georg Hesse Foundation Competition in Wiesbaden, and his bows continue to be valued by professional musicians and collectors alike.
