The Maker:

Award-winning bow maker Éric Gagné is recognized internationally for crafting bows that place the musician at the center of the playing experience. His work is distinguished by its exceptional feel, playability, and expressive potential, reflecting a deep understanding of both the artist and the instrument.

Gagné began his career in France, training with Blaise Emmelin before continuing his development in Brussels with Pierre Guillaume at Maison Bernard. After returning to Canada, he shared a workshop with Isabelle Wilbaux in Montréal for eight years before establishing his own workshop in Sherbrooke. In addition to his work as a maker, he collaborates with the workshop of Wilder & Davis, restoring fine bows for musicians and collectors throughout Canada.

His craftsmanship has earned consistent international recognition, including finalist honors at the 2012 International Competition of Cello and Bow Making in Paris and multiple Certificates of Merit and Medals from the Violin Society of America.

A respected member of the international string instrument community, Gagné is a founding member of the Makers’ Forum, an organization dedicated to promoting contemporary Canadian violin and bow makers. He is also a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers and the Entente Internationale des Luthiers et Archetiers.
